Our major application of the so-called Serendipity-Mindsponge-3D (SM3D) knowledge management theory has been published for some 30 weeks (DOI: 10.1057/s41599-022-01034-6). Since January 2022, the article has attracted approximately nine thousand accesses and has received a considerable number of citations from peer-reviewed articles (see Figure 1).

The journals publishing articles that cited the SM3D theory are various and belong to distinct research fields, such as data sciences (Scientific Data), interdisciplinary sciences (Humanities & Social Sciences Communications, Heliyon), psychological sciences (Frontiers in Psychology), health sciences (International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Healthcare, BMJ Open, Frontiers in Public Health), educational sciences (Frontiers in Education),  and environmental sciences (Sustainability). Some of the journals are prestigious and highly reputable in their research areas. For example, Scientific Data, published by Nature Portfolio, is a leading journal in data sciences with the 2021 JIF being 6.444; Humanities & Social Sciences Communications is another prestigious journal published by Nature Portfolio; the 2021 JIF of Frontiers in Public Health, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, and Frontiers in Psychology are relatively high, with 6.461, 4.614, and 4.232, respectively.

The SM3D theory has only been published for a short period (less than a year), so it is too soon to conclude the fate and influence of SM3D. However, we still record the statistics and hope that later statistical analysis with more sufficient data will help us know the future of SM3D.
